This seminar will provide a practical and hands-on approach to spotting and defining inventions and will include group exercises.

It will take into consideration prior art and patentability (patentable subject matter, novelty and inventive step).

In particular, the seminar will consider the problem-and-solution approach used by the European Patent Office to assess inventive step. It will consider the way in which this approach can be used to define the technical contribution of the invention in discussions with the inventors.

To ensure the commercial impact of an invention is encompassed in its patent claims, the seminar will cover:

  • Diligence in initial discussions
  • Preparation of the patent application
  • Further steps during prosecution of the patent application to grant
